Therapeutic Laughter IS NOT:
Comedy or Jokes
Humor is subjective, but laughter is connective. We have to be careful about “joking” during times of stress, as it can be a slippery slope that may actually disconnect us from our authentic selves and each other.
Toxic positivity
Making light of serious matters, or to turning frowns upside-down is definitely not therapeutic. You’re not required to be silly, and self-care means quitting when it stops being fun.
Funny business
It’s not about making you laugh, since forced participation is never fun. Some aspects of the process may challenge certain comfort zones, but it’s always therapeutic when we work together in safe spaces.
Political, religious, or exclusive
We don’t laugh AT each other, we laugh WITH each other. Everyone smiles in the same language and laughing together allows us to celebrate our differences, which makes us stronger.
The foundation for a
lifetime of good-hearted living.
Laughing all the way…
